Interhost – “I see Kolo as a branch of our own company”

Interhost

Remote hands and robust security are two of the main reasons Interhost has remained with Kolo since 2016.

Founded in 2011, Interhost is Israel’s largest hosting provider in terms of bandwidth. The company offers cloud services and high-traffic web hosting to clients, including news agencies, automotive brands, and global enterprises with distributed workforces. Around 80 per cent of its clients are based in Israel, with the remaining 20 per cent located in Europe.

Challenge

Interhost’s co-operation with Kolo began in 2016, when they required more effective protection against DDoS attacks.

“I had tried many different services, including Cisco Guard and Arbor Networks. Nothing worked, even though some of the solutions were very expensive”, says Dmitry Sherman, CEO of Interhost Networks.

Kolo offered a solution that was less complex, reasonably priced – and delivered strong security.

“Kolo’s DDoS IP protection helped us a lot. Many competitors followed our lead and purchased the same solution.”

A few years later, Interhost faced a fresh challenge: expanding into Europe. They needed a European point of presence for their cloud management platform and an additional contingency location.

Solution

After surveying the market, Dmitry Sherman chose to expand the partnership with Kolo.

The remote hands service offered by Kolo was a key factor, as Interhost is based on a different continent. Kolo’s team of technicians assists with hands-on tasks in the data centre.

“When I looked at other data centres, something was always missing. Either there were no remote hands services for installations, or the price was too high.”

Since 2022, Interhost has operated a full rack at one of Kolo’s facilities in the Netherlands. The location serves Interhost’s customers in Europe and also functions as a contingency site.

Result

Kolo’s services save Interhost both time and money.

“I see Kolo as a branch of our own company, located in the Netherlands”, Dmitry Sherman says.

“Kolo’s remote hands services save me dozens of hours per month, maybe more. Without that help, an Interhost engineer would have to fly to Europe and rent a car whenever we need to install a new server. Now, Kolo handles it for us.”

Dmitry Sherman uses remote hands for around five hours each month, mainly for server installation and deployment. The entire process is handled remotely: he orders new hardware from a distributor in the Netherlands and has it shipped to the data centre. Then, he opens a ticket to request installation and configuration.

“It’s very convenient. A Kolo technician goes to the data centre to unpack it, install it, and configure the IP addresses. Normally, remote hands services won’t configure the IP – this additional service helps us a lot.”

Interhost also continues to use Kolo’s DDoS IP protection.

“The security is still very strong and competitive. Other solutions simply aren’t good enough for us.”

The next step for Interhost is to expand their rack at Kolo.

“Our rack is full, and the data centre is currently at full capacity too. That’s a testament to Kolo’s success.”
